What it covers

Open and edit DICOM files on Windows

Install the desktop app to open DICOM files from Explorer, work with native menus and save edited copies through Windows file dialogs. The viewer, tag editor and anonymizer share one workspace. Core DICOM processing runs on your device without uploading your study.

  • View CT and MR series. Scroll slices, adjust window and level, measure structures and inspect synchronized MPR planes.
  • Edit DICOM metadata. Find tags, edit values and review changes before saving a copy. Undo and redo let you revisit edits.
  • Prepare de-identified copies. Apply DICOM PS3.15 profiles and review identifiers and burned-in pixel text before sharing.
  • Use Windows controls. Open files with Ctrl+O, open a folder with Ctrl+Shift+O and save with Ctrl+S. Explorer Open With can send DICOM files to dcmage.
Workflow

How it works

  1. 01

    Check your PC

The supported Windows build is for Windows 11 on x64 PCs. It uses Microsoft Edge WebView2. Check the Store listing for current installation requirements.

  2. 02

    Install from the Store

Choose Get the Windows app, then install dcmage from its Microsoft Store listing. No dcmage account or subscription is required.

  3. 03

    Open a local study

Launch dcmage and open a file or folder. You can also choose dcmage in Explorer’s Open With menu for .dcm, .dicom and .dic files.

  4. 04

    Review and save

Inspect images and metadata, make your changes, then export a copy. Check the exported files before using them elsewhere.

Checks that still need judgment

  • For research and education only. Not for diagnostic use.
  • De-identification needs human review. Check metadata, private tags and pixels; a profile alone does not guarantee that every identifier has been removed.
  • Core file processing is local. Feedback is optional and must not contain patient information; see the privacy policy for network activity.
  • On another platform, use the browser build or the Mac App Store release. This download targets Windows 11 x64.
